Client Context

Inspection camera views of the same pipe: blocked before lining, clear after

GSK is a worldwide biopharmaceutical manufacturer with two plants in Rockville, MD. The facility uses a vinyl ester coated fiber drainage system for its process and bio wastewater.

One building was being retrofitted to produce an important cancer drug. The above-ground piping had been replaced and 90% of the equipment was in place three weeks before startup when someone asked whether the under-slab piping had ever been inspected. It had not, and the inspection showed much of it cracked and at risk of failing once the plant came online.

Strategic Approach

  1. 01

    Survey the next day

Dynamic Drain rearranged its schedule and had a pipe survey crew on site the next day; the system was a good candidate for lining.

  2. 02

    Source the right resin

The piping would run above the temperature limit of typical drain-lining epoxies, so a special-order high-temperature epoxy was sourced, on the last truck out of Florida ahead of a hurricane.

  3. 03

    Line around the clock

Two crews worked around the clock, seven days a week, and lined all of the piping in under two weeks.

  4. 04

    Keep inspecting

GSK has contracted Dynamic Drain every year since to inspect, and where needed line, the under-slab piping in both Rockville buildings.

  1. 01Evaluation studyThe system is mapped, inspected by camera, and every section is condition-graded.
  2. 02Prioritized findingsGrades are weighted by system risk and turned into a plan, most critical sections first.
  3. 03RehabilitationTrenchless CIPP lining of the sections that matter most, without full pipe replacement. Access requirements are confirmed during the evaluation.
